Similar to my Nearness of Love series- these paintings from Devotion are places I go to escape. Basketball, the land, my love for Blake, intimacy, travel, light, and our home. When I was making the Nearness of Love- I was dealing with the loss of my grandmother. This series feels full circle as I navigate the loss of my dad. I thought I would turn to my more spiritual and surreal way of creating images, but I find in these times- I am drawn to painting what I can see, feel, and hold. And to me- those things are spiritual. These paintings are an honest glimpse into my life and the ways I sustain my joy. I hope you sense tenderness, excitement, love, peace, and presence. I also hope they offer a small echo of the refuge they have been for me.
